Anxiety disorders, panic attacks and phobias – 5 reasons why people who get help not get better?

About 30-40 percent of people given the state of the art for the treatment of their anxiety problems have limited extraction. No experience they hoped to find relief.

Among I the beginning of treatment, a significant percentage have a relapse after a period of time. Some cases, relapse is a temporary response to increased stress and can be overcome, in others less fortunate, it seems to be sustainable.

Why some people do not improve despite treatment good? Why Why others relapse? If you do not get better because we have either not received proper treatment, your therapist just sat and talked with you or have tried an alternative treatment instead of cognitive-behavioral you must continue to search until we find effective help.

So, keep note that the reasons that follow assume that you have been treated adequate, but did not improve as much as you want.

1. Must continue to practice techniques and strategies basic cognitive therapy.

Renewed panic, phobias, obsessions and compulsions, or anxiety in general requires a effort consistently over a period of time. You must take time each day to practice deep muscle relaxation, aerobic exercise, the challenge and anti-anxiety self-talk, and little by little against the inner feelings of anxiety or to avoid the external situation.

If you are unable or unwilling to make such an effort for a course of cognitive behavioral therapy, you can not have many advantages. And if you do not keep up core practice of relaxation, exercise and exposure after the end of treatment, increasing their risk of relapse.

Recovering a anxiety disorder requires a permanent change in life, with time available each day to practice skills that keep the anxiety and phobias happen again.

If you find you have difficulty maintaining a commitment to daily practices that can ensure the restoration long term, a couple of things you could do.

Firstly, can agree with your therapist to have periodic sessions return "after completing the therapy, to help you stay on track with its recovery program.

Second, if you live in a large metropolitan area can attend a support group for anxiety disorders. This group has to be a place where the emphasis is on what each is doing to maintain or improve the recovery, not only vent their problems. If you do not have a support group in your area, you can find help through message boards and chat rooms online.

2. Should I take medication when necessary or to stop until he has offered its benefits.

Often, prescription drugs is not necessary. However, if your problem is relatively severe, it is very possible need to combine medication with therapy cognitive-behavioral approach to better results. For "serious", I mean your condition meets at least one of the following criteria:

• Anxiety is bad enough that it is difficult for you to achieve work and / or function at work, or has been arrested work.

• The anxiety interferes with their ability to maintain compliance and close relationships with members of the family and / or others, or which prevents him from establishing a relationship with another major.

• The anxiety causes distress significant 50 per cent of the time you are awake. This is not only a nuisance or irritation important, they often feel overwhelmed and have difficulty to spend the day.

If you think your anxiety disorder is one or more of these criteria, the most likely can benefit from a drug test, signed by your doctor. Do not try drugs because they are afraid or are philosophically opposed to them hinder their recovery, if your situation is serious.

3. YOU MUST New lifestyle a way to support peace and greater ease in your life.

Even if you received a cognitive-behavioral therapy and took medication right (s), recovery may be limited if your lifestyle is so complicated and constantly deal with a high level of stress.

The Anxiety Disorders caused by three factors: heredity, personality based on the experience of childhood and the accumulated stress. You can not do much about its genetic or early childhood, but can do much to reduce stress in your life.

If you reduce and coping with stress, you reduce their vulnerability to anxiety. It's that simple. Stress comes from external and internal factors. The External factors include items such as applications stressful working travelers on peak point, smog, food additives, family negative, and noise pollution.

These types of stressors usually require external solutions. The internal stresses have to do with their own attitudes, that too much emphasis on success at the expense of everything else, or a tendency to put things too much in too little time. Requires an internal solution, basically changing their attitudes and priorities.

Many people do not recover from panic or anxiety willing to put as important to your peace of mind and health as they do in the race for material success and accomplishment.

4. DO NOT LET to resolve interpersonal problems that perpetuate Personality and anxiety.

Cognitive therapy and exposure can help to change thoughts that causes panic and face your fears. However, you can not change the fundamental features personality that predispose them to be anxious in the first place.

If you grew up with perfectionist, too much control parents, for example, is likely to be yourself perfectionist. Nothing about you or your life continues to meet your standards quite exaggerated, and therefore ready to constant stress.

Or if his parents were very critical of you, may be increased with an excessive need to please and approval obtain. If you spend your life trying to please others, to the detriment of their own personal needs, it is very likely to harbor not expressed great resentment and thus more prone to anxiety.

Insecurity, too much dependence caution excessive and excessive need for control are other issues common personality of persons suffering from anxiety disorders. These personality traits are often associated interpersonal problems, that is, maybe you expect too much of his spouse (perfectionism) or you do not ask enough (excessive need to please.) Or you may resent attempts of parents to control yourself, but you do not assert their needs with them.

5. EXISTENTIAL ISSUES

The problem at the root of your anxiety may be even deeper than the personality. Anxiety may persist despite treatment and medication because they feel a sense of emptiness or meaninglessness of his life.

Today, with many competing values and loss of traditional authorities such as church or social customs, it is easy to feel adrift and confused. The pace of modern life can lead to feelings of confusion, if not outright chaos.

The so-called "existential angst" does not to cognitive-behavioral therapy and requires a different type of approach.

If your life feels meaningless or useless, perhaps you need to discover their own unique gifts and creativity, and then find a way to express significantly in the world. I think each of us has a special gift to offer a unique contribution to make.
