The most terrifying day of my life – Part 2
This is the second installment of my three part series of my diagnosis of MS.
In January 1991, I went for my eye exam from a perspective of Benson. The optician gave me a different order. I thought this might solve my blurry vision when I met problem. However, the first time I ran my right eye once more cloudy, as it had in the past. And as crazy as I did in the same instead of before! You may ask how I can remember 16 years ago, but the time of diagnosis of my brain for the rest of my life! I still had some tingling in the arms and right leg and I went to a chiropractor and my back cracked. I thought that my sciatic nerve is pinched, and that would take care of tingling sensation. He did, but only for one week, then the tingling returned my arm and right leg. I began to go crazy asking what the hell was wrong with me!
Around this time, I have read, heard television or a friend told me about multiple sclerosis. I also went to Pearl Vision center my eye exam again. I wanted to see if the optical Benson knew what he was doing and he gave me the recipe. I told the guys from Pearl blurred my vision when I ran. Pearl control Optical eye and told me it was the right prescription and asked whether this could be MS. He said he could be and if the symptoms persist, I must see an ophthalmologist (eye doctor). So I went running every day and my right eye kept on getting fuzzy on the place of my career.
He turns to spring in Minnesota, and they were all. I decided to join a softball team. One night I have been in practice, I play ball with another player. There was something strange happening to me. I would like to see the ball leaves from another person and then the flight between us disappeared. The ball would reappear seconds before hitting the glove! Wow What the hell is this now! Now it was weird and my head started buzzing again. A few days later, I have an appointment with an ophthalmologist and again confirmed that optical properties and Pearl Benson were correct. I also called multiple sclerosis and if this could be the disease. As optical Pearl said she could be, but I see a neurologist to do some tests and make imagined! I had the card that a neurologist knew.
That's when I decided to go to the library and borrow a book on multiple sclerosis. Indeed, some symptoms and problems I faced last year and a half have been in the book. My head swam as I said, What I would if I had MS? Do not sleep well for a week in anticipation of my appointment. It may seem that I put on all these appointments for a week, but remember not that I ran my carpet cleaning business. I worked day and night, and I guess part of me did not know what I thought was bad news! Then an appointment with the neurologist and I arrived and explained what had happened to me. Here are some tests scheduled for me.
First test I had was what I call test flash. I put a cap connected to the son and the neurologist put a strobe light adjacent to 6-12 inches from my face and lit it. This test was to check my reaction to light. I think it is also measured my optic nerve has been reaction to light. The second test was an electroencephalogram (EEG) that records brain waves. Again I son with a cap attached to it. It is used to detect the activity level of electricity in the brain. Brain cells communicate through electrical impulses and an EEG measures and records the electrical impulses to detect anything abnormal.
The last test I did was a lumbar puncture. My neurologist has trouble finding the cerebrospinal fluid in the back. I think it was his first day ever there. There are different ways to obtain a sample of cerebrospinal fluid. Lumbar puncture, commonly called a spinal tap, is the most common. The test usually as follows:
– The patient must lie on the side, with knees drawn up toward your chest and your chin tucked. Sometimes the test is made with the person sitting, but bent.
– After cleaning, the back, the doctor injects anesthetic (anesthetic) in the lumbar spine.
– A spinal needle is inserted, usually in the lower back.
– Once the needle is properly positioned, the cerebrospinal fluid pressure is measured, and the liquid is collected.
– The needle is removed, the area is cleaned, and placed a banner on the site. The patient is often asked lie down for a short period after the test. I said I was lying in his hospital bed four hours, and then remains at home.
The doctor tried twice to find the cerebrospinal fluid and was ready to send me to x-rays to find when he said to try again. A third attempt was found with cerebrospinal fluid and was able to extract what is needed. Then I had to sit on the hospital bed for four hours. If you give too quickly severe headaches. The neurologist I given painkillers and sent me home, where a break with the rest of the day! Lumbar puncture is usually 99.9% correct, if a person has MS or not. You know what? I passed the test of lumbar puncture, which does not seem to MS!
We must remind you that he was single and did not have a girlfriend when I went through all this! I lived alone and had no support system that I could speak! If I remember my parents came to visit me while I was lying. Even after hours on all fours in the hospital, I had to stay laying down for the rest of the day. My mind wandered many expect the worst and plan for my life if the results proved to be MS. I am not a weak person, but I think it is natural to your mind to think the worst. At least mine did!
Aside from my parents, I had someone near me to talk about whatever was happening to my body. My head was thinking about all the bad things that could happen. With hindsight, I remember every new sensation of tingling or a feeling that had prompted the most questions. Over time, led me on the path of anxiety and panic attacks. I suffered with over 90 years and still suffer regularly from that date now! The only difference is that now I know what is and how the battle! I could write another e-book on anxiety, because I have so much to say about it.
