How long does pleurisy last?

My doctor diagnosed pleurisy six weeks ago and took an x-ray of my lungs, it became clear to pneumonia. After repeated visits to the doctor several rounds of antibiotics and steroids, I still a pain in the morning every morning. The pain starts when I wake up for about 2-4 hours. My doctor prescribed Flexeril (muscle relaxant), which only put me to sleep and then I was prescribed Ultram (tramadol), which is to relieve pain (but give me a panic attack worse). Anybody Out There have suggestions as to what my next step should be? My doctor seems very reluctant to any pain medicine stronger. The pain that I want say is that on my left side, in the region of the lung, and only when I breathe in. It affects my back and wraps the front of the chest on the side left.
