If medication is needed in the treatment of panic attacks still being debated. While some believe strongly that no medication is needed, others argue that the use of these has its place. A new study by the National Institute of Mental Health in Maryland, however, seems to support the latter view.

The study found that there is a predisposition to anxiety in people who lack a key neurochemical receptor in the brain. It is the first to discover that people who suffer from panic disorder and depression have a deficit in the 5HT1A receptor â € "about one third less than those without these conditions.

Concerns a 5HT serotonin, a hormone in the brain (and other parts of the body, but Itâ € ™ s brain activity that concerns us here). Our brains are the result of millions of cells nerve to communicate with all others by nerve impulses. Serotonin in one of these neurotransmitters. Serotonin influences our mood, anxiety levels and depression â € "and sexuality, sleep and vomiting, among others!

Why produce imbalances of serotonin are still unknown, but it has been shown that antidepressants may increase the amount of serotonin available to the body. One category called monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs), prevents the degradation of serotonin, but it has many negative side effects. Another category which showed fewer side effects are SSRIs, or selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors of serotonin. Some of the most popular drugs in this category include Prozac, Zoloft, Celexa and Lexapro. They work to prevent the depletion of serotonin in the blood.

The good news is that SSRIs were found to be very effective and patients report an improvement in symptoms within weeks. The bad news is that SSRIs are addictive, and therefore can not be used for short-circuiting short-term emergencies. In addition, the effect of withdrawal is â € "anxiety!

The levels of serotonin may also be increased by natural methods. Getting a good night's sleep € ™ is considered essential and foods rich in vitamin B, calcium, magnesium and tryptophan (turkey, soybeans, peanuts and almonds) helps to produce serotonin. Herbs such as valerian root and St. Johna € ™ s Wort has also been found to increase serotonin levels.

Drug Panic Attack is useful and effective in the right hands. But like all drug therapies, you should have a knowledge of the advantages and disadvantages before accepting them.

I am having a major panic attack about going to a therapy appointment … Please help!?

I have my first appointment all psychotherapies today and I had major panic attack all day for him. Im at work so I can go sit down and meditate or anything, but at this rate, I'll talk to browse. Any advice / tips / advice / kind words??

I felt the same thing before my first appointment with my therapist. Turns out it is very nice, patient and understanding. Go to your therapist is like talking to anyone but do not judge you, whatever you say. When you start to panic, remember to ask: "What is the worst that can happen? "In this case, you may not like your therapist. Maybe you'll freeze and difficulty speaking. Maybe I'll say something stupid. It can be treated with any of these things, if that happens. Again, your therapist has heard people say the most ridiculous things imaginable, so I doubt anything you say will be disrupted. Do not skip your appointment, honey. Will be so worthy. After your appointment is finished, reward yourself for doing something that had so frightened they are and remember that real life is not as scary as we fear that is in our minds.
